Christina Aguilera Detained for Public Intoxication
March 1, 2011 – Los Angeles police arrested singer Christina Aguilera for public drunkenness at about 3 a.m. this morning. Aguilera spent hours waiting for her blood alcohol levels to drop at a West Hollywood police station before officers released the pop star.
Aguilera was a passenger in boyfriend Matthew Rutlers vehicle when he was stopped for driving erratically early Tuesday morning. West Hollywood police arrested Rutler for suspected driving under the influence, while detaining Aguilera for being “extremely intoxicated,” stated Los Angeles police sources.
Prior to taking her into police custody, officers deemed the glamorous singer and actress incapable of taking care of herself. Aguilera was freed approximately 4 hours later at around 7:30 a.m. Police said she may not be charged with public drunkenness.
Former Disney child star and five-time Grammy award winning singer filed to divorce music executive Jordan Bratman last October. Aguilera was widely scrutinized by the media for botching the words to the national anthem at Super Bowl XLV last January.
Last December Aguilera was also criticized through poor reviews and straggling box office business in her acting debut as movie star of the musical film, “Burlesque.”
Many celebrities find themselves harshly criticized as they are constantly probed by the white hot spotlight of fame. For many individuals, a public intoxification arrest may or may not be an indication of an alcohol addiction problem in the present or near future.
