(CNN) -- Gunmen kidnapped an elderly French woman in a resort in northern Kenya early Saturday, near where a British woman was seized and her husband killed last month, authorities said.
Kenyan forces are pursuing the boat carrying the gunmen and the 75-year-old woman, Kenyan tourism minister Najib Balala told CNN.
"The Kenyan security want to attack the boat from the air and drown it, but if they drown the boat, they drown the hostage," the minister said.
Balala said the woman uses a wheelchair and was seized about 3 a.m. in Manda Island near Lamu.
"They are chasing them right now and want to capture them before they get to the Somali border," he said.
It is the second kidnapping near the popular tourist town of Lamu in a month. Gunmen fatally shot a British man and kidnapped his wife, Judith Tebbutt, from a safari lodge near the town in September.
Her husband, David Tebbutt, was killed in the attack when he resisted, according to Kenyan police.
Security analysts have said Judith Tebbutt is being held by pirates in a remote corner of Somalia. British government officials have asked journalists not to reveal her exact location to avoid abduction attempts from rival gangs.
